Our selection of Ultra Pro deckboxes licensed by Magic: The Gathering, currently on clearance, includes the 100+ illustrated boxes, the ALCOVE Flip, and the ALCOVE Edge models in premium leatherette. Set expansions included are Thundercross Outlaws, Aetherdrift, Darkbrown, Horizons from Modern 3, and Tarkir: Storm of Dragons. Why the 100+ format became the TCG standard
A Commander deck contains exactly 100 cards. A Magic Standard, Modern, or Pioneer deck goes up to 60 cards plus 15 in reserve, for a total of 75. In practice, the 100+ box covers all official Magic formats while leaving room for a few tokens, a counter die, or a promo card. This is why it has become the standard box on the market, far surpassing the older 75+ sets.
Deck Box 100+ Illustrated vs ALCOVE: the real difference
The two Ultra Pro ranges cater to two distinct uses.
The Deck Box 100+ is made of rigid, PVC-free, archival-safe polypropylene, with a self-locking lid and thumb notch. It has a stated capacity of up to 110 single-sleeved cards. This is the default tournament box: sturdy, lightweight, stackable, inexpensive, and printed with the set artwork.
The ALCOVE line (Flip and Edge in stock) features a leatherette finish on a rigid structure, with a magnetic closure and double thumb notches on a fold-out lid. Capacity: 100 standard double-sleeved cards. The Alcove Flip opens from the top, the Alcove Edge from the side, depending on your preferred handling method. Neither model offers integrated storage for accessories: to store dice, counters, and tokens in the same box, you would need an Alcove Tower (not currently in stock).
Single or double sleeve: it makes all the difference
Capacity depends on the sleeve. A 100+ sleeve holds 110 single-sleeved cards, or approximately 70 to 80 double-sleeved cards depending on the sleeve thickness. Conversely, the Alcove Flip sleeve is designed for 100 double-sleeved cards. Commander players who carry duals, fetches, signed cards, or high-value cards prefer double sleeves to absorb shocks and limit corner deformation: the Alcove sleeve then becomes the most suitable option.
