Why the 100+ format became the TCG standard
A Commander deck contains exactly 100 cards. A Magic Standard, Modern, or Pioneer deck goes up to 60 cards plus 15 spares, for a total of 75 cards. In practice, the 100+ box covers all official Magic formats while leaving room for a few tokens, a counter die, or a promo card. This is why it has established itself as the benchmark box on the market, far surpassing the older 75+ boxes.

100+ Illustrated Deck Box vs. ALCOVE: The real difference
The two Ultra Pro lines serve two distinct purposes.
The 100+ Deck Box is made of rigid, PVC-free polypropylene, certified archival-safe, with a self-locking lid and thumb notch. Advertised capacity: up to 110 single-sleeved cards. This is the default tournament box: sturdy, lightweight, stackable, inexpensive, and featuring the set artwork printed on it.

The ALCOVE line (Flip and Edge in our stock) boasts a leatherette finish on a rigid structure, with a magnetic closure and double thumb notches on a fold-out lid. Capacity: 100 standard double-sleeved cards. The Alcove Flip opens from the top, the Alcove Edge from the side, allowing you to choose according to your preferred handling method. Neither model offers integrated storage for accessories: to house dice, counters, and tokens in the same box, you would need an Alcove Tower (not currently in stock).

Single or double sleeve: it makes all the difference. The capacity depends on the sleeve thickness. A 100+ box holds 110 single-sleeved cards, or approximately 70 to 80 double-sleeved cards depending on the sleeve thickness. Conversely, the Alcove Flip is designed to hold 100 double-sleeved cards. Commander players who carry duals, fetches, signed cards, or high-value cards often prefer double sleeves to absorb shocks and minimize corner deformation: the Alcove Flip then becomes the most practical option.
