This is the format used in official tournaments (Pokémon Organized Play). The Expanded format accepts a larger card pool. The basic rules can be learned in one game, but deck building and understanding the metagame require experience. Local tournaments (League Challenges, League Cups) are held in game stores, and regional and international Championships attract thousands of players each year.
