The Echoverse and Hexhaven: Jace Creates a Parallel Multiverse
Fractured Reality opens as Jace Beleren, a mage of immense intellect, assumes a new identity (The Theorist) and creates an alternate multiverse called the Echoverse. This parallel reality begins to encroach upon the original multiverse and threatens to replace it. The set focuses its story on the alternate version of Arcavios, where Strixhaven has been replaced by Hexhaven, a parallel dystopian school. Where the five colleges of Strixhaven were built around pairs of enemy colors, the schools of Hexhaven are built around pairs of allied colors, creating a semantic and mechanical mirroring effect with the Secrets of Strixhaven (SOS) expansion released a few months earlier in April 2026.

Reality Fracture: The Final Event of the Three-Year Metronome Arc
Fractured Reality is the 114th Standard set for Magic: The Gathering and marks the conclusion of the Echoverse story arc as well as the larger, three-year Metronome arc. The set is classified as an event set, a special format that serves as the climax of a long-running storyline. The storyline includes sinister alter ego versions of well-known Magic legends, encountered in Jace's dystopian sanctuary.

Prepare and Mirrored Legend Pairs: Set Mechanics
The Prepare mechanic makes its return: introduced in Secrets of Strixhaven (SOS) in April 2026, it reappears here in narrative coherence with the alternate version of Arcavios. A new packaging mechanic is confirmed: each pack contains mirrored pairs of legends, meaning that opening one of the two legends guarantees the simultaneous presence of its counterpart in the same booster pack, a direct in-game translation of the Echoverse/Main Multiverse duality.

Bloodline Recollector // Ancestral Craving: The Mark Poole-Signed Serialized Card
The flagship card of Fractured Reality is Bloodline Recollector // Ancestral Craving, a double-faced 2/2 Vampire Sorcerer creature for {1}{B}, whose reverse side contains a Prepare ability called Ancestral Craving, a black reinterpretation of Magic's historic Ancestral Recall. The set offers two versions of the card. The standard version (FRA 49) features art by Cynthia Sheppard. The headliner serialized version (FRA 402), printed in approximately 500 copies, is signed by Mark Poole, the original artist of Ancestral Recall on Alpha in 1993, representing over thirty years of artistic continuity between the two cards. It is presented in a throwback full-art frame, borderless and textless, and appears in less than 1% of Collector Boosters, exclusively in English regardless of the language of the opened booster.

Stingcaster Mage and Echoverse Reinterpretations
Alongside Bloodline Recollector, several cards in the set are advertised as Echoverse reinterpretations of well-known Magic cards. Stingcaster Mage is a red version of Snapcaster Mage, and the set contains other similar "what if" scenarios, each shifting an iconic card from its original color identity to another color consistent with its new role in the Echoverse. This reinterpretation mechanic transforms part of the set into a tribute to Magic's historical catalog.

The Fractured Reality Commander Deck and the Five Foundations Decks
A preconstructed Commander deck accompanies the Standard expansion. Five additional Commander Foundations decks are being released on the same day but are not thematically linked to the set: they are designed for beginners and cover all five mana colors. The mono-white Calling All Angels deck is led by Giada and revolves around Angels, the mono-black Wretched Ranks deck is led by Ghoulcaller Gisa and revolves around Undead, the mono-red Reign of Dragons deck is led by Lathliss and revolves around Dragons, and the mono-green deck features Ghalta, Primal Hunger at the helm of gigantic creatures.

Available Products: The Fractured Reality line covers all deck types. Play Boosters are sold individually, in packs of 10, or in boxes of 30 for drafting. Collector Boosters (boxes of 12) contain exclusive treatments, including the serialized version of Bloodline Recollector. The Bundle completes the offering for collectors. The Fractured Reality Commander Deck and the five Foundations Commander Decks are released on the official launch day. The Draft Night allows you to organize a draft around the set. The Prerelease Pack is released on September 25, 2026, one week before the expansion's official release on October 2.
