Each of the 12 boosters contains 15 Magic cards plus a double-sided Art Card or traditional foil token, with guaranteed rares or mythics, premium foils, and variants. Across the box, there are 12 opportunities to encounter the most sought-after treatments from this second Magic adventure in Middle-earth, adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.
The Hobbit Collector Boosters introduce a card treatment never before seen in Magic's history: some cards are printed in Dwarven script, the Cirth runic alphabet created by Tolkien for the dwarves of Middle-earth, with Arcane Signet being the first card revealed in this treatment. The display box concentrates the chance to open the ultra-rare Smaug the Magnificent Gleaming Gold card, a variant limited to 500 copies in total, exclusive to Collector Boosters and always printed in English regardless of the language of the opened booster. With 12 boosters, the probability of finding one becomes significant. The expansion's signature card is also available in three versions within this format: the standard version (HOB 110) illustrated by Francisco Miyara, the variant HOB 249 signed by Ted Nasmith, official illustrator for Tolkien Editions since the 1980s (The Silmarillion, Tolkien calendars, illustrated editions of The Lord of the Rings), and the third variant (HOB 265) illustrated by John Tedrick.
