The single Play Booster is the most direct entry point into a Magic: The Gathering expansion. Fractured Reality adds a feature no set has offered before: of the three Echo Pair cards in each booster, two must belong to the same pair. Opening Chandra, Torch of Defiance therefore guarantees finding Chandra, Chill of Compliance, its blue counterpart from the Echoverse, both illustrated by Kieran Yanner, in the same pack. The principle applies to every pair: Ajani Resolute and Ajani Unrelenting by Tyler Jacobson, Garruk, Veiled Butcher and Garruk, Curse Breaker by Victor Adame Minguez, Liliana the Faultless and Liliana the Repentant by Marta Nael, or Tinybones, Pocket Nuisance versus Titanbones, Towering Heart, both by Jesper Ejsing.
The official contents of the bag are 5 to 6 commons, 1 uncommon, 1 common or uncommon, 3 Echo Pair cards, 1 rare or mythic, 1 traditional premium card, 1 land, and 1 double-sided non-premium token. The set's Booster Fun treatments also circulate in Play Boosters: the 13 Shattered Mirror cards, Echoverse reinterpretations of classic cards like Stingcaster Mage, and the 23 Braintwister series cards with impossible geometries.
Rules-wise, the set brings back Prepare, which appeared in Secrets of Strixhaven in April 2026, on double-sided creature/spell cards: while the creature is prepared, you can cast a copy of its spell, which unprepares it. It also introduces Empower Jace, supported by 18 cards revealed so far, which places loyalty counters on a blue Jace planeswalker token with [−1]: Prospect 1 and [−3]: Draw a card.
