Description: Thranduil's realm is the underground palace of the Elven king of Mirkwood, the place where the dwarves are imprisoned before their escape in barrels. Ultimate Guard has created the darkest of its six The Hobbit mats based on this theme, predominantly black, in contrast to the blue of Goblin Town.
This color scheme has a practical consequence: a dark mat makes the borders of light-colored cards stand out and reduces eye strain during a long game under shop lighting. This is the deciding factor between the two "location" mats in the range, more so than the artwork itself.
Size: 610 × 350 mm, the expected size when each player brings their own mat. The surface covers the entire area of a player's table without encroaching on the opponent's.
2 mm natural rubber: the thickness cushions the placement of cards and protects them from a rough or stained table. Non-slip backing to keep the mat in place. Stitched edges all around prevent the fibers from fraying during transport.
The Hobbit range includes six playmats. Four feature maps of Middle-earth, two of which have a Sophoskin leather-like finish; the other two, Goblin Town and this one, depict locations.
