The single Play Booster remains the most direct way to access a Magic: The Gathering expansion. For Secrets of Strixhaven, each 14-card booster includes a guarantee that sets this set apart from most recent expansions: a Mystical Archive card in every single booster, without exception.
The Mystical Archive is a pool of 65 bonus cards, comprised of reimagined Magic instants and historical sorceries with entirely new artwork and frames. The distribution includes 25 uncommons, 25 rares, and 15 mythic rares. Confirmed reprints include Force of Will, Vampiric Tutor, Culling the Weak, and Pyretic Ritual—four cards that remain consistently popular in Eternal and Commander formats.
In terms of rare card probabilities, SOS Play Boosters follow the usual structure but with high variance potential: each booster contains at least one rare or mythic card, with a 33% chance of getting two, 6% for three, and less than a 1% chance of finding four or five. These additional slots come from the wildcard and the variable slots within the Play Booster. The traditional guaranteed foil card is also included. It can be any rarity, from common to mythic, creating a second point of interest with each opening. Buying a single Play Booster thus allows for targeted testing of the set, with the certainty of obtaining at least one Mystic Archive coin per purchase.
